Last Mounted Meeting 2011

It's hard to believe the year has gone by so fast! Today is our last mounted meeting of this year. While the sun is out, it will be a bit on the chilly side. I know you've heard it before, but please dress appropriately!

In addition to bringing your pony club binders, manuals, and the all-important armband, please also remember to bring your pens. We have holiday cards to sign for our friends!

Finally, many families are out of town on the 18th (this is when we scheduled our annual hhpc holiday party), so we will reschedule it for a time when we can have more memember there!

Back to School Special Assignment!

I have a very special assignment for you! I know you are all getting organized to start school again... so let's take advantage of you being this frame of mind! Please take some time to ORGANIZE your pony club binders!

Remember that it's totally up to YOU when it comes to organizing your binder. It will be important that you include the things that you use most at regular pony club meetings. Below is a list to help you, but you will likely find that you will add to it :)
Your flow chart (for at least one rating above your current rating)
A copy of the standards
A copy of the ratings test sheet for the level above your current rating
note paper
papers/worksheets from pony club meetings

You might want to add a zip-up pouch... that way you can keep pencils/pens in there (since you always need to come to pony club with something to write with) and you might also want to keep a copy of your medical release or the entire arm band in there :)

Making A Record Book

Many of you are about to start making your own record books... while we will go over them several times at our club meetings, here are some important things to keep in mind while you get going:

The purpose of the record book is to do just that- record! You want to be sure that yo record ALL of the important information about your pony. This includes the date of each and every vet and farrier visit and exactly what happened, when your pony gets dewormed, any switches in your pony's feed, etc. You will also want to make sure that you include all the essential information about your pony. The best way to think about it is: If you left town for a year and just gave me your pony and your record book, I should be able to keep everything the same for him and answer any question the vet or farrier might ask me!

You will find that you must constantly work on keeping your record book updated. Otherwise you will have a very hard time trying to get it ready for your test. Even more important than that, if you are working with a vet and perhaps they want to know "When did your pony get new shoes?" You will have a hard time answering it if you don't keep your record book up to date!

THIS IS IMPORTANT: There is no "right" format for your record book. However, there are definitely better ways to do it than others. Pony club provides us a good template to use as a starting place. Many people find that it works better for them to re-organize the information into a more user-friendly format. WHAT YOU WANT TO MAKE SURE OF IS THAT PEOPLE CAN FIND THE INFORMATION THEY NEED IF THEY ARE LOOKING AT YOUR BOOK!

Happy Recording :)
